  • Don’t assume that the existing IT staff is eager to help.
  • •Don’t assume that the existing IT staffers know everything about their environment. (They usually inherited it and just kept it working.)
  • Don’t impulsively lock security down; applications will start breaking if you do.
  • Don’t implement new technologies yet; complete the transition and secure current functionality first.
  • Don’t estimate network traffic volumes conservatively (in the company and out); add a cushion.
  • Don’t forget to identify external entities the business needs to connect with.
  • Don’t forget to plan for redundant hardware if you’re relocating servers; things always break in transit.
  • Don’t assume that everything will be smooth.
